Megan Carty is a Boston area contemporary abstract artist exploring themes of triumph over hardship. Her paintings feature flowers, animals and birds purposely left unfinished as a metaphor for the ever-evolving and improving human condition. We are alway "in progress." I Slept in the Lobby, 8x8 abstract painting study

Abstract Paintings

My gestural abstract paintings resemble carefully composed songs, where contour lines act like musical notes and interact with blocks of color to create delicate narratives. I intentionally use empty space as a compositional element, allowing the eye to breathe, much like the rests in music. My color choices are instinctual, contrasting vibrant, saturated hues with muted tones to evoke a unique mood for each viewer. The result is a dynamic and harmonious visual concerto, rich with energy and emotion.

$300.00

“I Slept in the Lobby” is an 8x8 inch gouache and acrylic abstract painting (with pencil in the layering) on heavy watercolor paper.

The piece is signed on the front and on the back. This piece comes unframed. (Framing is recommended).

My latest abstract pieces explore what it feels like inside my brain while living and coping with depression and anxiety. It isn’t always just black and bleak. It is complicated and full of color, confusion, decay, growth, and beauty. There is optimism, light, and energy. There is fear, desperation and stress. There is dismay, chatter, loneliness and overwhelm and it ALL exists together in the beauty of life.

I create a tangle of color, shape and line to convey this confusion of life and decay to the viewer in a relatable way. Surprisingly, the end result is something I hope to be “pretty” and interesting to look at. To be relatable and delightful despite having a morbid undercurrent. Like it has a hidden secret there in plain view…a secret shared between artist and viewer. What we see on the surface isn’t always the end of the story; it’s just the very beginning.
